Wet Wet Wet

It's raining again...

The weather is crazy. It rained very heavily the week before Christmas, causing flooding in the low-lying areas, fallen trees and even led to some slope failures. According to the meteorological services, the rain on 18 Dec 2006 was the highest record in last 75 years. It sort of dried up a bit during Christmas and New Year and I thought the worst was over.

I was wrong. It started raining again on Tuesday and didn't stop till Friday. There was no reports of flood this time. But there was a massive landslide somewhere in Hillview. And more fallen trees.

Stupid rain. I can't get my laundry done at all. We hang our wet laundry at all imaginable places. Without the sun, all our clothes have got this horrid, damp smell. The basement room was so humid that I've got mould growing on our shoes and leather bags. I even got mould on the doors. Think I should be able to grow mushrooms soon. But we ought to be thankful. Our problems weren't so bad. I met up some of our neighbours on Monday and it seemed a number of them has got leaks in their houses.

Anyway I just bought another dehumidifier from Best Denki. Cost me $770. Bloody expensive.

Stupid rain.

A New Year

Haven't been posting for a while. Lazy. Why else?

New Year New Resolutions. I don't think I make any last year. But this year I want to start on a healthier life-style. Hopefully I'll be able to influence my kids to follow me. I've already joined California Fitness Club last month and I've been going qute regularly. About 3 times a week. I even signed up a personal trainer 'cos I'm not familiar with the gym equipment. I want to learn to use the machines properly. I am serious about getting myself in shape! Gu said California Fitness is a gay pick-up joint. Yet to meet one.

Last year has been quite hectic. But generally everything went fairly smoothly. Whatever problems I faced at the beginning of the year were more or less resolved. So I had a peaceful Christmas and New Year weekends. The long weekends were great.

Gu and the gang came over on Christmas eve. It's been kind of a traditional thing for us since we first met in 1997. This Last (since it's already 2007) Christmas, I decided to roast my own turkey. Couldn't find fresh turkey so bought a frozen one. Took 4 days to defrost that frozen chunk of bird. I marinated it oriental-style using five spice powder, soy sauce, sesame seed oil and basil. The turkey turned out pretty good for a first attempt... juicy and tender. I made fresh cranberry sauce, cranberry relish, roasted spicy pumpkin soup, shepherd's pies, apple pie. My friends brought dishes too so we had plenty to eat.

The rest of the week was relatively peaceful. Just the way I want to end the year.

Happy New Year!
