Bak Kut Teh

This is one of the must-eat dishes for visitors to Singapore. Bak-Kut-Teh is basically spicy pork ribs soup. Even Thaksin Shinawatra (He made an unofficial visit here in January not long after he was ousted) came all the way here to eat at the bak-kuh-teh stall in Rangoon Road.

My brother bought a box of Teochew-style bak-kuh-teh spice. It claimed to be the authentic Singapore bak-kuh-teh and I'm sure it is. Why? Because the cooking instruction was written in Singlish!

I've tried it already. It's quite good! I love mine to have lots of garlic and pepper. Besides pork ribs, I also added mushrooms. Shiok man!

Need a Break..

very badly... feeling kind of burnt out lately. Not surprising considering the number of late nights working on my projects. I hardly get sick but just these couple of months I lost my voice twice.

Construction industry is experiencing a boom right now. Recently two large Integrated Resorts projects were awarded. And many residential properties in the vicinity of these IR projects suddenly see a huge jump in the property prices. And all of a sudden, many developers started increasing their private properties prices. And many people, afraid that the prices will escalate further, went into some sort of panic buying and ended up pushing up the prices even more. And developers who wanted to take advantage of this, started launching more residential projects.

Anyway, I'm in the geotechnical engineering line and am involved in many temporary excavation projects. So naturally projects started coming in fast and furious. I was caught off guard when my engineer suddenly resigned. My draftsman suffered some form of depression. Not from work but he felt lonely being in a foreign country with his wife and kids back in Philippines. He too, decided to quit. My younger engineer who hasn't been back to China for the last 4 years, wanted to fly home to visit his parents during the Chinese New Year period.

So all of a sudden, I had 6 brand new projects but no one to help me. I had to attend the meetings, do the analysis, prepare the drawings, conduct presentations to clients/authorities for all the 6 projects within 3 months. These are on top of my on-going projects. I almost died from lack of sleep and exhaustion.

I managed to push out most of it. Hopefully things will slow down a bit. need.to.catch.my.breathe.

*sigh*

New Colors

My cat, Ebbi, loves my computer... the CRT monitor actually. It was warm and wide enough for her to curl up on. I replaced it with a LCD screen so now she's sleeping on my laptop instead. Sometimes, she wouldn't wait and would walk right up to my powerbook and planted her furry butt on my keyboard while I was still typing!

Yesterday I had to leave my powerbook to run a video conversion software. I sort of lowered the cover so that Ebbi wouldn't be able to walk across the keyboard. And guess what happened when I got back? Yes, there she was, resting comfortably on the keyboard. Not only did she manage to lift up the cover, she renamed my hard-disk to "zzzzzzz", took 4 screen shots, and switched my screen color to negative. Black became white, white became black, green became pink and blue became hues of yellow and orange.

It took me a while to figure how to switch the color back. Ctrl-Option-Command-8.. amazing how she has triggered a complex command like that accidentally.
