Midlife Crisis Anyone?

I'm already into my 40s... that dreadful stage of onset of the clockwork, universal, midlife crisis when fortysomething individuals suddenly shed spouses and act like adolescents. hmmm...

I googled to check whether I'm exhibiting any of the characteristics of a person going though midlife crisis. Let's see...
  • Individuals experiencing a mid-life crisis have some of these feelings:
  • - search of an undefined dream or goal
    - a deep sense of remorse for goals not accomplished
    - desire to achieve a feeling of youthfulness
    - need to spend more time alone or with certain peers
  • They exhibit some of these behaviors:
    - abuse of alcohol
    - conspicuous consumption , acquisition of unusual or expensive items such as clothing, sports cars, jewellery, gadgets, tattoos, motorbikes, etc.
    - depression
    - paying special attention to physical appearance
  • Other than "paying special attention to physical appearance" part, I have none of the rest of the symptoms. Guess I'm safe! heehee

But seriously, there are definite signs of aging. My eyes weren't as good... I need to hold the newspaper farther away in order to read the print. My metabolic rate dropped.. I'm putting on weight even though there's no change in my daily activities.

But other than that, I feel good! I have a wonderful husband and 2 great kids. I have a lot of good friends. I am comfortable with my job. Of course there are ups and downs but I am better at solving problems and managing my life. I am at peace with myself. I don't feel the need to prove myself to anyone. I am more confident. And I actually feel younger than my chronological age.

Just realise my last paragraph is full of "I". But then "I" is the keyword here. Witness the power of the ego. I found the time for me.

So guess I'm not ready for midlife crisis yet.. Check back in another.... 10 years?
